What is MICR?

MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) is a 9-digit code printed at the bottom of cheques using special magnetic ink for automated processing in banks.

MICR Code Format

First 3 digits: City code
Next 3 digits: Bank code
Last 3 digits: Branch code

Where to Find MICR?

Look at the bottom of your cheque. The 9-digit MICR code is printed in a special font using magnetic ink, usually on the left side along with the cheque number.
